Sault Ste. Marie Police say an officer wasn’t hurt after a suspect closed the door of a cruiser on their leg.

At around 2:30 a.m., Sault Ste. Marie Police were told about a person jumping on street cleaning equipment and chasing the operators in the area of Gore Street and Albert Street East.

“Upon arrival, officers located the accused, who began to run away from them,” said police in a news release.

“When officers caught up with the accused and began to exit their cruiser, the accused charged at the cruiser and pushed the door closed on an officer’s leg before running away again.”

Zachary Rivard, 29, was soon arrested and charged with:

  • Assault Peace Officer
  • Cause Disturbance
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order

None of the allegations have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent until proven guilty.
