A 39-year-old has been charged with animal cruelty after someone made a gruesome discovery last night in the city's east end.
At around 6 p.m. Thursday, a person phoned 911 to report a dead dog hanging from a tree in the 0-100 block of Black Road.
Officers were dispatched to the scene, where they found the deceased animal.
Police later identified the dog owner, who “fit the description of the suspect seen in the area where the dog was found,” says a news release issued by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.
Officers located and arrested the suspect today.
Veering from typical practice, the police news release does not identify the person charged. SooToday has asked police for clarification and will update this story when more information is provided.
The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled back in court on July 22.
