A southern Ontario resident is facing impaired driving charges after being pulled over in Sault Ste. Marie on Saturday morning.
Sault Ste. Marie Police say officers on patrol spotted a vehicle “driving suspiciously” along Wellington Street West at around 9:45 a.m.
Once they stopped the vehicle and spoke with the driver, officers suspected they may be impaired by cannabis.
“The accused participated in a Standardized Field Sobriety Test and performed poorly,” alleged police in a news release.
She was arrested.
“The accused was then evaluated by a Drug Recognition Expert who determined the accused was under the influence of drugs.”
Lara Fournier, 57, of Southampton has been charged with:
- Operation While Impaired – Drug and/or Alcohol
- Operation While Impaired – Blood Drug Concentration
- Dangerous Operation
- Glass G1 Licence Holder – Unaccompanied by Qualified Driver (under the Highway Traffic Act)
- Novice Driver – Presence of Drug (under the Highway Traffic Act)
None of the allegations have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
