Driver charged with impaired after crashing into utility pole

A driver who crashed into a utility pole has been accused of being impaired.

Sault Ste. Marie Police were called to the area of Albert Street East and Elgin Street at around 11:15 p.m. on Friday, April 18.

“Upon arrival, officers located a vehicle which had struck a pole, splitting it in half and causing it to hang over the sidewalk,” said police in a news release.

Officers say multiple breath samples registered above the legal limit.

James Fletcher, 33, was charged with: 

  • Operation While Impaired – Drug and/or Alcohol
  • Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80+)
  • Dangerous Operation

None of the allegations have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
