Over the weekend, a 24-year-old man was charged with impaired.
At around 2:15 a.m. on April 12, officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service stopped an erratically driven vehicle on Wellington Street West while out on patrol.
As officers were speaking with the driver, they noticed signs that his ability to drive was impaired by alcohol.
The driver was given a standardized field sobriety test and failed. He was arrested.
As a result, Abhijith Sasi was charged with:
- Operation While Impaired – Drug and/or Alcohol
- Speeding (under the Highway Traffic Act)
The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on May 12.
None of the allegations have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
