A 29-year-old male will be appearing in bail court this morning after being arrested on two outstanding warrants. It is alleged that the accused, who was originally arrested on a charge of assault on Jan 27th 2008, failed to appear for court on Feb. 25th. The assault charge stems from a family dispute. The accused is further alleged to have breached one of the conditions of his recognizance release order.

Three Charged with Assault

1) At approx. 2:45 am city police were called to the parking lot of the Canadian Motel regarding an assault. Upon arrival officers arrested and charged 30-year-old Jason Smith, of 28 Rossmore Rd. It is alleged that Mr. Smith threw a beer bottle at a male person that he was not to communicate or physically interfere with. As a result of the assault the accused was charged with one count of assault with a weapon and two counts of breach of probation. The victim did not require medical attention.

2) At approx. 2:35 am this morning city police attended a west end address regarding an assault. Upon arrival officers spoke to the victim and subsequently arrested and charged a 21-year-old male. Daniel Neveau, of
119 Albert St. E. is alleged to have assaulted the victim by punching him in the face several times. The victim and accused are known to one another. The victim did not require medical attention for his injuries. Mr. Neveau is charged with one count of assault and will be appearing in court on May 12th at 9:00 am.

3) Two 15-year-old males were arrested yesterday evening and each was charged with one count of assault. It is alleged that on Wednesday April 2nd the two accused assaulted two other youths, known to them, by punching the victims in the face. Both victims received minor injuries and did not require medical attention. The accused youths are to appear in court on May13th.

Possession of a Weapon

A 15-year-old male was arrested yesterday afternoon and charged with one count of possession of a weapon dangerous to the public. It is alleged that the youth, who was being arrested on an apprehension warrant made threats to use a knife that he had in his pocket on police officers. The accused will be appearing in court on April 29th at 9:30 am.

Break & Enter

City police were called to the Hard Wok Café, at 303 Cathcart St. at approx. 3:30 am this morning regarding a break and enter. Unknown person(s) broke into the business and stole a small amount of change.

Dumpster Fire

At approx. 4:12 pm yesterday afternoon the city fire department and city police were dispatched to the rear of the Beer Store located at 250 Bruce St. regarding a dumpster fire. Upon arrival officers observed a dumpster containing cardboard totally engulfed in flames. Witnesses advised officers that a male youth was seen near the dumpster just prior to the fire breaking out. The suspect is described as: white, male, approx. 15 years of age,
5’ tall, wearing dark pants, a black jacket, a dark baseball cap and carrying a light coloured backpack. The suspect was last seen walking westbound through the parking lot.

Mischief

The Sault Ste Marie Police Service received three reports of mischief involving spray paint yesterday morning. Two vehicles were spray painted, one parked in the 200 block of Wellington St.E. and the second one parked in the 200 block of Albert St.W. St. Mary’s College, located at 130 Wellington St.E. also suffered damage as a result of graffiti being spray painted on the school walls.
