Officers from Traffic Services need the assistance of the public in locating the driver of white SUV that was involved in a motor vehicle collision early this morning. Just after 8 am a 12-year old female was walking eastbound on Queen Street East on the sidewalk, when the white SUV traveling southbound on Gravelle Street struck the pedestrian as she crossed the roadway. The pedestrian received non-life threatening injuries but did not require medical treatment at the time of the incident. The driver of the vehicle had stopped and spoke to the youth, but then left the area after ensuring the youth was okay. The incident was reported to the Police later in the morning. Break and Enter

2 15-year-old youths allegedly broke into a residence in the 100 block of Tamarack Avenue yesterday afternoon and were scared off when the homeowner returned. The police were immediately called. Officers located one of the youths, with the assistance of the Canine Unit, in the 1000 block area of Trunk Road almost immediately. Officers located jewellery and a small amount of coins on this accused person. The second youth was apprehended around 5 pm in the Trunk Road and Dacey Road area after an officer spotted the youth who matched the description of the second wanted person. Officers also located a small-undisclosed amount of coins on this person. Both young persons have been charged with one count each of break and enter and commit an offence. The first youth to be apprehended has also been charged with 3 counts of breach of probation.

Domestic Assault

A 33-year old women was arrested early last evening after City Police responded to a domestic assault call in the City’s east end. It is alleged that the women assaulted her ex-husband by kicking him in the chest and punching him in the face while he held onto their young child. None of the injuries the victim received required medical treatment and the child was not physically harmed. The accused has been charged with one count of assault.

Male Charged With Assault

A 22-year old male was arrested last evening after officers attended at a downtown residence for a domestic dispute incident. It is alleged that the accused assaulted his pregnant girlfriend by grabbing her in the front of the shirt and throwing her to the bed, then off of the bed onto the floor, pinning her to the floor and pulling her hair. During the dispute it is alleged that the accused also broke a door and a window of the victim’s residence. The accused was on probation at the time of the incident with conditions not to drink, which he failed to abide by. When officers went to arrest the accused he resisted arrest by kicking, struggling and biting at the officers pants. The accused has been charged with one count of assault, one count of resist arrest, one count of breach of probation and one count of mischief.

More Break and Enters

In addition to the above break and enter, City Police received 2 other reports of break and enters yesterday. A garage in the 300 block of Third Avenue was entered and a three-wheeled bike was taken. Yesterday during the daytime a home in the 100 block of Forest Avenue was entered and thieves made off with jewellery and a DVD player.

Motor Vehicle Collisions

Just after 1 pm officers attended at Bay Street and Gore Street. It is alleged that a jeep operated by 55-year-old C.J. Nowakowski of 632 North Street was traveling east bound on Bay Street. 63-year old Caroline Nolet of 70 East Street was walking westbound on Bay Street. It is alleged that as Mrs. Nolet was walking across the intersection of Bay and Gore St., Mr. Nowakowski made a left turn onto Gore Street and struck Mrs. Nolet. Mrs. Nolet was taken by ambulance to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Mr. Nowakowski has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario with one count of fail to yield to pedestrian.

Last evening just after 9 pm 35-year old Margaret Erdman of Sault Ste. Marie (Note to media-this is only address information on report) was driving her van westbound on Second Line West and turned northbound onto Goulais Avenue with the green light. A 13-year old youth was traveling eastbound on the sidewalk on their bicycle and entered into the intersection, which resulted in the car and cyclist colliding. The youth received treatment for non-life threatening injuries at the scene by ambulance personnel. No charges have been laid at this time, pending further investigation.
