IMPAIRED CHARGE 41-year old John High of Cornwall, Ontario will appear in bail court this morning after City Police received a report of a possible impaired driver in the City’s east end.

41-year old John High of Cornwall, Ontario will appear in bail court this morning after City Police received a report of a possible impaired driver in the City’s east end.

Police stopped a car in the area of Queen Street and Dacey Road and found the driver to be impaired. Mr. High was charged with one count of impaired driving and one count of consuming over the legal limit.


REPORTED LYING ON THE GROUND
27-year-old Phil Fournier of no fixed address will be appearing in bail court tomorrow after being arrested around 4:00 this morning.

City Police went to the area of Trelawne Avenue by the tracks after a citizen reported a male lying on the ground. Mr. Fournier was passed out and when awakened by the police he was taken into custody for his own protection due to his level of intoxication.

Mr. Fournier became upset and started to punch and fight the officers. It was learned that the accused was on a release document with conditions not to consume alcohol.

Mr. Fournier has been charged with one count of assaulting police, one count of resisting arrest, one count of breaching a release order, in addition to being arrested under the Liquor License Act of Ontario for intoxication.


CAR HITS BIKE
Yesterday morning around 9:00, city police were called to Queen Street East and Shannon Road for an accident that involved a car and bicycle.

Guenther Berndt of 143 Stanley Street was operating his bicycle westbound on Queen Street East when a car turning from Queen onto Shannon Road struck him.

The driver of the car, Rachel LeClair of 1579 Queen Street East was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with left turn-failure to afford reasonable opportunity to avoid a collision.

Neither person involved in the accident required medical treatment.


BREAK & ENTERS
City police received 2 reports of break and enters to offices at 473 Queen Street East yesterday. The Gus Palombi Law Office and the Algoma Physical Rehabilitation Clinic were both entered and some stamps were taken.

Shortly after 10:00 last night a citizen in the 300 block of Wellington Street East looked out his window and observed a youth inside his truck. The owner went outside and the youth took off running from the area. Nothing was taken from the vehicle and no arrest has been made in this attempt theft as yet.
