The following four persons will be appearing in bail court: 1. Yesterday morning at approx. 5:00 am city police received a 911 call to attend at a centrally located address regarding an assault.
The following four persons will be appearing in bail court:

1. Yesterday morning at approx. 5:00 am city police received a 911 call to attend at a centrally located address regarding an assault. Upon arrival at the address the officers were informed by a female person that she had been assault. As a result police arrested a 25-year-old male and charged him with one count of assault and two counts of breach of probation. It is alleged that the male assaulted his common-law-girlfriend by choking her around the neck and slapping her in the face. At the time of this offence the accused was on probation with conditions to keep the peace and not to consume any intoxicating substances. The victim did not require medical attention for any injuries.

2. A 50-year-old male will be appearing in bail court this morning after being arrested, yesterday afternoon, by city police for two counts of breach of an undertaking. It is alleged that on Jan 2nd and 3rd 2008 the accused contacted his ex-girlfriend while on an undertaking release order that prohibited him from communicating with her.

3. Last night at approx. 11:15 pm city police were called to an apartment complex on Terry Fox Pl. regarding an intoxicated female annoying fellow tenants. It is alleged that the officers located Annie Sutherland in the hallway in an intoxicated condition. At this time it was learned that the accused was on a recognizance release order prohibiting her from consuming alcohol. As a result Annie Sutherland, age 29, of 27 Terry Fox Pl,
Apt # 212 is charged with two counts of breach of a recognizance order.

4. At approx. 3:10 am this morning city police were called to attend a west end address regarding a domestic assault. It is alleged that the accused, a 27-year-old female assaulted her common-law partner by punching her in the face. The victim did not require medical attention for any injuries. The accused is charged with one count of assault.

Impaired Driver

At approx. 12:30 am this morning city police attended on North St. regarding a motor vehicle collision. It is alleged that one of the drivers, Alana Coutts was impaired by alcohol at the time of the collision. It is further alleged that the accused resisted officers when she was being arrested and refused to take a breathalyzer test at the police station. As a result Alana Coutts, age 38, of 50 Pardee Ave. is charged with one count of impaired driving, one count of failure to comply with demand (breathalyzer test) and one count of resist arrest. She will be appearing in court on Feb. 11th.

City police were called to investigate two break and enters yesterday.

A residence in the 1300 block of Leigh’s bay Rd. was entered- thieves stole a small amount of jewellery. An apartment in the 500 block of Albert St. W. was also entered. Groceries and a small amount of cash were taken.

Police received one complaint of mischief over night.

A vehicle parked in the 500 block of Korah Rd. was damaged.

R.I.D.E Stats

The Sault Ste Marie Police Service has completed its December R.I.D.E. Program. The following statistics were compiled:

4266 Vehicles were stopped
56 Roadside tests were performed
12 -12 Hour suspensions were issued
4- Arrests for impaired driving
8- Other Criminal Code arrests

Police Seek Public's Assistance

The Sault Ste Marie Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance in locating witnesses to a motor vehicle collision that occurred at approx. 12:55 am on December 23rd, 2007.The incident began on Bennett Boulevard as a reported erratic driver and finished on Trunk Rd. across from the East End Husky when a 1989 Honda Civic, red two door hatchback-with no rear bumper, struck a pole. It is believed that drivers and occupants of two other vehicles, in the area, may have observed the incident. One vehicle may be a black Ford pickup. Any person that has any knowledge or information on this occurrence is asked to contact Cst. J. Rice of the Sault Ste Marie Police Service Criminal Investigation Unit.
