EX-BOYFRIEND ARRESTED
The actions of an ex boyfriend resulted in criminal charges yesterday. An investigation into the actions revealed that on May 12th, 2003, the victim, a 51-year-old female was at a downtown coffee shop where unexpectedly she was met by her ex-boyfriend.

He walked in front of her into the store and left at the same time as the victim. The victim then started receiving unwanted telephone calls from the accused at her residence and place of employment.

On May 13th, the victim found a letter inside her vehicle written by the accused. Her vehicle was parked at her place of employment. On May 31st, at 5:50 am the accused removed the victim's vehicle from her driveway at her residence. A short time later, the accused returned to the residence without her vehicle and knocked on the door.

Police were called and charges of theft were laid. The accused continued to bother the victim and on June 7th, he walked in front of the female as she was leaving the Station Mall to avoid the accused.

Early today detectives from the Investigation Services Section arrested and charged the 55-year-old male with Criminal Harassment. He will appear in court on July 14th.


ARRESTED FOR THREATENING
On June 5th, the accused, Melvin Pine, age 39 of 421 Wellington Street East, 3rd floor, became upset with an adult male who lives on London Street. Pine went over to the male and an argument ensued.

During the loud argument, Pine threatened to physically harm the male. Yesterday, at 4:46 pm, patrol officers arrested and charged the accused with threatening Death or Bodily Harm. He will appear in court on July 14th.


CHARGED WITH SHOPLIFTING
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested and charged two persons for shoplifting yesterday. At about 12:30 pm, Rebecca Baxter, age 18 of 35 Bowker Street entered Zellers located at 306 Northern Avenue.

She allegedly selected various candy items and concealed them in her backpack. She exited the store without paying for them and was arrested by staff.

At approximately 2:15 pm, Edward Atherton, age 46 of 167 Prentice Avenue allegedly entered Rome's at 44 Great Northern Road. He selected a quantity of items worth over $100.00, stuffed the items into his jacket and walked out of the store. Store staff arrested him. Both individuals have been charged with Theft under $5,000.00. They are scheduled to appear in court on July 21st.


TWO ARRESTED
Yesterday, at shortly after 11:00 pm, police officers arrested two males for breaching their release conditions. Patrol were checking a vehicle on Bruce Street when they found the accused Brian Wing, age 19 of 144 Frontenac Street to be riding with Calvin Doherty, age 20 of 627 McDonald Avenue, # 906.

Both were on conditions not to associate with each other. Both males were arrested and charged with Failing to Comply with an Undertaking. Doherty faces an additional charge of Breach of Probation. They will appear in bail court today.


BOY STRUCK BY CAR
Yesterday at 5:26 pm, a car on McNabb Street at Clearview Drive struck a 6-year-old boy. Investigation revealed that the boy ran out onto McNabb Street and was struck by a westbound 1992 Ford Sedan being driven by a 45-year-old female from Goulais River.

The driver, Mary-Ann Jerome, was not injured, while the boy received minor injuries and was taken to hospital by his parents. No charges were laid in this matter.


BREAK & ENTERS
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service investigated several break-ins yesterday. At 8:30 am, patrol officers were called to Dairy Queen on Great Northern Road where thieves had broken in. They removed the ATM machine from the business.

Shortly after 9:00 am a resident on Central Creek Drive advised police that thieves removed the lock from his shed and stole some hand tools. The investigating officer found that several sheds had been broken into in the area and had tools taken from them.

At 2:50 pm the occupant of an apartment in the 300 block of Cathcart Street advised police that thieves had broken into his apartment and removed some mediation.
