Theft Under $5000

The Sault Ste Marie Police Service has arrested 31 year old Samuel Kenneth Wade of 247 Huron Street. It is believed that on the 15th of October the accused was working at the North Husky on Great Northern Road where he was viewed by internal camera surveillance stealing cigarettes and money from the store. In a second incident which took place on the 19th of October at the Husky, the accused who was working at the time of the incident was again viewed taking money from a client for the purchased gas. The accused did not deposit the money into the cash register; instead he kept it then made a false report to the Police of theft of gasoline. Samuel Wade has been charged with 3 counts of theft under $5000 and 1 count of public mischief. The accused is scheduled to appear in court on the 3rd of December.

UPDATE to 24th of October, news release:

Officers from the Sault Ste Marie Police Service Patrol and Emergency Services Unit were called to the Sault Area Hospital this morning at 8:30 am regarding an 81 year-old male that had attended there with a gun. Officers responded and the male was arrested at 9:09 am and taken into custody. The male received non-life threatening injuries at the time of his arrest.
The SIU (Special Investigations Unit) has been called in to investigate. There are no further details being released at this time.


The male in this incident has been identified as 81 year old Eric Chapman. He has been charged with 1 count of possession of weapon for dangerous purpose and 1 count of utter threat to cause death or bodily harm.

Robbery at Mac's

Early this morning just after 2am, two unknown males entered the Mac’s Mart at 187 Gore Street brandishing a knife. The two culprits left the store west bound on foot with an undisclosed amount of money. The store clerk in this incident did not suffer any injuries. The males are described as being approximately 5’6; both wearing hooded sweatshirt and ball caps and both had some sort of material covering their faces. This matter is currently being investigated. Noise Complaints leed to Death Threats

City Police arrested 52 year old Jean Kaczynski (male) just after midnight. It is believed that the accused became upset after the Police contacted him by phone and warned him regarding noise at his residence. The accused attended at one of his neighbors place and threatened to kill him. Police attended at the Downtown residence and arrested the accused. He has been charged with 1 count of threatening death and will be appearing in court the 3rd of December.

Mischief & Breach

A 15 year old youth has been charged with 1 count mischief under $5000, and 3 counts of breach of probation order. It is believed that the youth who resides in a group home became upset at the staff members and smashed a window. Police attended just after 8am on the 25th of October and placed the youth under arrest. At the time of his arrest his was probation with conditions to not molest or harass staff members and was to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. He will be appearing in bail court this morning.

Theft Under $5000

33 year old Mary Christine Maitland and 30 year old Sean Michael Maitland both of 331 Douglas Street have been charged each with 1 count of theft under $5000. It is believed that both individuals attended at the Humane Society and took a kitten then left without paying for the cat. They were arrested yesterday just after 9pm and they are both expected to appear in court on the 3 of December.

Four Counts of Breach

A 26 year old male has been charged with 4 counts of breach of probation order in a domestic related incident. It is believed that the accused on three separate occasions contacted his ex-girlfriend and on one occasion attended at her residence. The accused was bound by a probation order to not communicate with or attend at the victim’s residence. He will be appearing in bail court this morning.

Threatening Phone Calls

A 23 year old male has been charged after making threatening phone calls to his ex-girlfriend. It is believed that the accused contacted the victim on the 25th of October just after 11am, and threatened death and bodily harm to the female. The accused was arrested on the 25th just before 5pm and was charged with 1 count of threatening death or bodily harm. He will be appearing in bail court this morning.
