One person is facing impaired driving charges after police pulled over an erratic driver.
At around 10:20 p.m. on Thursday, May 8, someone called 911 to report they’d spotted a slow, swerving vehicle on Wellington Street East.
“Officers were dispatched to the area, where they located a vehicle travelling at approximately half the speed limit and swerving across the centre of the road,” said Sault Ste. Marie Police in a news release.
Officers pulled the vehicle over and suspected the driver was impaired by alcohol.
The suspect was brought back to the Police Services Building where officers say breath samples registered above the legal limit.
James Hammerberg, 47, was charged with:
- Operation While Impaired – Drug and/or Alcohol
- Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80+)
- Dangerous Operation
- Driving Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor (under the Liquor Licence and Control Act)
None of the allegations have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent until proven guilty.
