A man faces weapons charges after Sault Ste. Marie Police executed a search warrant on Tuesday that turned up an imitation firearm.

Police say earlier this month, detectives began an investigation into a man being in possession of weapons.

Around 9:30 p.m. on April 22, detectives with the Crime Suppression Unit and Drug Enforcement Unit executed a search warrant at a unit within a multi-unit residence building in the 1200 block of Wellington Street East.

A search of the unit located brass knuckles and an imitation handgun, police said in a release.

A man was arrested.

William McDonald, 41, is charged with:

  • Possession of Firearm or Weapon Contrary to Prohibition Order x2
  • Possession of Imitation Firearm
  • Unauthorized Possession of Weapon

McDonald was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on June 16.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and McDonald is considered innocent until proven guilty.
