Sault Police have charged a 34-year-old man with assaulting a peace officer after a special constable was spat on.
Police say the incident occurred yesterday at around 1 p.m. as the man was being escorted back to a holding cell at the Police Services Building while in custody on unrelated charges.
“While being escorted to a cell, the accused spit on a special constable,” police said in a news release.
“The accused was placed back in a cell, and later charged with assault peace officer.”
Police said Richard Paquette was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
None of the allegations have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent until proven guilty.
