The following five persons will be appearing in bail court this morning: 1. James Southwind, age 35, of 77 A Chapple St. Apt # A. On Friday Dec 7th at approx. 4:00 pm the accused was walking on McNabb St. with his common-law girlfriend.
The following five persons will be appearing in bail court this morning:

1. James Southwind, age 35, of 77 A Chapple St. Apt # A. On Friday Dec 7th at approx. 4:00 pm the accused was walking on McNabb St. with his common-law girlfriend. At this time he was observed grabbing pushing and attempting to strike the female. Police were called and arrested the accused. James Southwind is charged with one count of assault. The victim did not require medical attention.

2. Graham Tarrant, age 22, of 680 Portage Lane. Apt # 7. On Friday Dec. 7th at approx. 3:50 pm city police officers arrested Mr. Tarrant for outstanding warrants. It is alleged that between April 8th, 2007 and Nov 16th 2007 the accused breached the conditions of his probation and recognizance orders. The accused is charged with two counts of breach of recognizance and one count of breach of probation.

3. A 15-year-old male is charged with one count of breach of probation and one count of breach of an undertaking. It is alleged that on Friday Dec 7th at approx.10:00 pm the accused breached the conditions of his curfew by not being in his residence by 8:00 pm.

4. A 30-year-old male. It is alleged that on Sunday Dec 9th at approx. 3:30 am the accused attended at the east end residence of his girlfriend and while there assaulted her by throwing an ottoman at her. The item struck the victim on the head and caused a large cut on her forehead. The accused fled the scene but was later located by the Sault Ste Marie Police Service. The accused is charged with one count of assault with a weapon. The victim did not attend the hospital for her injuries.

5. Charles Walton, age 29, of 110 Breton Rd. Apt. #3 On Saturday Dec 8th at approx. 6:45 pm officers from the Sault Ste Marie Police Service and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police executed a drug search warrant at an east end address. As a result of the search warrant police located : 14.2 grams of marihuana, 40.9 grams of cannabis resin, 5- 30 gram tablets of morphine, another 97.1 grams of marihuana, digitals scales, packaging items and $ 840.00 in cash. The street value of the drugs is estimated to be approx. $ 3,140. Charles Walton is charged with two counts of possession of a substance, two counts of possession of a substance for the purpose of trafficking and one count of trafficking in a substance. At the time of the execution of the warrant a 27-year-old female was also present and party to the offences. Police have charged Michelle Barnes, age 27, of 110 Breton Rd. Apt #5 She is charged with two counts possession of a substance for the purpose of trafficking and one count of possession of a substance. She will be appearing in court on Feb 2nd.

Domestic Dispute

On Sunday Dec 9th at approx. 11:20 pm city police were called to a north end residence regarding a domestic dispute. Upon arrival officers received information from a male person advising that he had been assaulted by his common-law partner. Officers observed that the victim had been scratched on the face. The accused a 40-year-old female was arrested and charged with one count of assault. The victim did not require medical attention for his injuries. The accused will be appearing in court on Feb 14th.

Attempted Break & Enter

On Saturday Dec 8th at approx. 7:45 pm city police were advised that a male person was attempting to break into 21 B Wellington St. E. (Sell-Off Vacations). Police arrived in the area and located the suspect. Charged with one count of break and enter is Aaron Wilson, age 28, of 87 Forest Ave. - basement apt. The Sault Ste Marie Police Service would like to thank the citizens that assisted our service by reporting this crime.

R.I.D.E Stats

The Sault Ste Marie Police Service operated two R.I.D.E. Programs over the weekend. Stats are as follows:

570 vehicles checked.
8 roadside tests performed
3 - 12 hour suspensions issued.


Unconscious Driver

On Saturday December 8th at approx. 6:00 am city police were called to a fast food restaurant on Great Northern Rd. regarding an unconscious driver. Upon arrival officers located a 22-year-old male asleep behind the wheel of his truck. Upon speaking with the driver officers noted a strong odour of an alcoholic beverage on his breath. Charged with impaired driving and drive over 80 mgs is Cory Sewell, age 22, of 1600 Third Line E.

The Sault Ste Marie Police Service received two reports of attempted break and enter over the weekend.

The incidents occurred in the 100 block of Henrietta Ave and in the 200 block St. Mary’s River Dr.

Theft From Vehicle

City police received one attempt theft of vehicle, one theft of vehicle and one theft from a vehicle over the weekend. A 1992 blue Dodge Caravan was stolen from the 600 block of MacDonald Ave. A vehicle also parked in the 600 block of MacDonald Ave was entered and unknown were items stolen. A vehicle parked in the 100 block of Albion St. was damaged in an attempt to steal it.

City police also received two complaints of mischief.

A residence in the 100 block of Primrose Dr. had a window broken. The Bank of Montreal located at 556 Queen St. E. had a front window broken at approx. 3:00 am Saturday morning Dec. 8th.
