DOMESTIC ASSAULTS

On Friday afternoon a 43-year-old male was arrested and charged with assault after a domestic dispute. It is alleged that the man grabbed a woman and took documents that she was reading. He will appear in court on March 8th.

Another domestic dispute on Friday resulted in a 21 year-old male being charged with assault. At approximately 11:50 pm the man pushed a female victim to the ground on one of our city’s east end streets. The man is scheduled to appear in court on March 8th.

A domestic dispute in the city’s west end on Saturday night saw a 36 year-old man charged with Assault with a weapon, Assault causing bodily harm and possession of a prohibited weapon. The man is alleged to have punched the victim and struck her with a weapon. The accused is scheduled to appear in court on February 23rd. The victim required medical treatment as a result of the assault.

DON’T MESS WITH THE POLICE DOG

At 2:50 Saturday morning 37 year-old Jason Bullock of Georgetown was arrested by city police officers for obstructing police while they were conducting an investigation on Bay Street. The police canine unit was on a track on Bay Street when it is alleged that Mr. Bullock attempted to distract the police dog and ignored instructions given by the police officers. Mr. Bullock was arrested and will appear in court on March the 8th.

IMPAIRED CHARGE

Officers laid one impaired driving charge over the weekend. Sunday evening at 10:03 officers attended on Bay Street in regards to a truck in a snow bank. The officers arrested and charged 50 year-old Raymond Hurtubise with impaired driving and over 80 mg. Mr. Hurtubise is scheduled to appear in court on March 1st.

BREAK & ENTER

City police are also investigating a break and enter that occurred overnight Saturday. Officers attended at the Wellington Square Mall yesterday morning in regards to a break in at the “Rad Zone/Audio Exchange”. It is believed that several video games and video game boxes were taken. Anyone with any information is asked to call the Criminal Investigation Bureau of the city police or Crime Stoppers.

WEATHER RELATED- SLOW DOWN

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service was busy on the weekend investigating motor vehicle collisions. Over the weekend there were 35 accidents, with only a few of those resulting in minimal injuries and charges being laid. Snow covered and icy road conditions are being blamed for most of the collisions.

Motorists are advised to adjust their driving in accordance with weather and road conditions. Slow down and be careful when approaching intersections
