A fourth person has been arrested in connection with a summer standoff with Sault Police that ended with the apprehension of a man wanted for a 2022 homicide in Peterborough.
The arrest occurred early this morning during a traffic stop near Wellington Street East and Pine Street, police say.
As SooToday reported in August, the accused killer, 34-year-old Eduardo Silva, had barricaded himself inside a Manitou Park home. He was arrested two hours later “without incident,” police said at the time.
Initially charged with seven offences, including second-degree murder, Silva was subsequently charged with 33 additional weapons-related crimes. Police say they seized three handguns, two high-capacity magazines and more than 100 rounds of ammunition.
A second suspect inside the home was arrested in November, and in December, Sault Police arrested a third person for alleged connections to the seized firearms.
Today, police announced the arrest of a fourth person wanted in connection with the standoff. The person was initially located inside the house on the night of the standoff, but a warrant for her arrest was not issued until after police located the weapons and ammunition.
Officers were on patrol at around 2 a.m. today when they pulled over a vehicle driven by the accused. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed a collapsible baton and small quantities of suspected fentanyl, cocaine, and methamphetamine, police allege.
Michelle Lapointe, 30, is charged with:
- Possession of Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition x3
- Unauthorized Possession of Prohibited or Restricted Firearm x3
- Careless Storage of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device, or Ammunition x5
- Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose x4
- Unauthorized Possession of Weapon x3
- Carrying Concealed Weapon
- Occupant of Motor Vehicle Knowing There Was Prohibited or Restricted Weapon
- Possession of Schedule I Substance x3
The accused is being held in custody pending a bail hearing.
None of the allegations have been tested in court and Lapointe is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
