On Wednesday, Sault Police officers charged a 58-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman with several firearm offences while executing a search warrant in the 200 block of Second Line West.
Both individuals were arrested on the strength of outstanding warrants, police said in a news release.
Officers found ammunition, a loaded handgun which had its serial number tampered with, an airsoft pistol, and brass knuckles.
Nicholas Pears is charged with:
- Careless Storage of Firearm
- Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
- Possession of Firearm or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order x 12
- Possession of Prohibited Device or Ammunition
- Possession of Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
- Possession of Prohibited Device or Ammunition for Dangerous Purpose
- Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
- Tampering with Serial Number of Firearm
- Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
- Unlawfully at Large
Melinda Robinson is charged with:
- Careless Storage of Firearm
- Failure to Comply with Release Order – Other Than to Attend Court x 4
- Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
- Possession of Firearm or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order x 4
- Possession of Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
- Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose x 2
- Tampering with Serial Number of Firearm
- Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
- Unauthorized Possession of Weapon
Both accused were held in custody pending a bail hearing. None of the allegations have been tested in court and both individuals are considered innocent until proven guilty.
