A prohibited driver, nabbed behind the wheel three years ago, must pay $1,500 in fines and faces a further 12 months without a licence.
Jacob Boyer pleaded guilty Thursday to operating a vehicle on Jan. 25, 2022 while prohibited and was fined $1,000.
He also was convicted of breaching an undertaking for missing a Dec. 18, 2023 court date, and received a further $500 penalty.
Ontario Court Justice Melanie Dunn heard a northbound vehicle was spotted travelling along Black Road at a high rate of speed.
When city police officers stopped the vehicle on Second Line East, they discovered Boyer was a prohibited driver because of a dangerous driving conviction.
Prosecutor Chris Thompson told the the court the accused has a criminal record and "this is not his first driving offence."
Defence lawyer Jessica Belisle said her client is remorseful and "understands his wrong doing."
Boyer has been laid off, she explained, asking that he be given two years to pay the financial penalties.
"I'd like to apologize for wasting the court's time," he said, when asked if there was anything he wanted to say.
"I'm trying to do better."
When she imposed the sentence, Dunn told him his guilty pleas indicated remorse.
She gave Boyer one year to pay the monetary penalties.
