FIRE THIS MORNING
The City Fire and Police Services responded to a fire call in the west end early this morning. At 5:15 an alarm came in from 125 Carufel Avenue, just off Wallace Terrace. A pot burning on the stove in an upstairs apartment started a fire that caused extensive damage to the kitchen area and smoke damage to the entire apartment.

Platoon Chief, Rick Thomas, said firefighters were on the scene for about an hour and a half. There were no injuries. Thomas pointed out the importance of having good batteries in your smoke detectors.

SAME-SEX DOMESTIC DISPUTE
Police got the call at 2:30 this morning and went to an east-end address near the hospital where one domestic partner had assaulted the other. The dispute started verbally and escalated with the accused punching the victim in the face several times and then biting him.

City Police Sergeant, Steve Train, said neither the victim nor accused can be identified. The accused will appear in bail court on Monday.
