A prisoner at the Algoma Treatment and Remand Centre is facing fresh charges after allegedly punching a fellow inmate.
At around 8 p.m. yesterday, someone phoned 911 to report an assault at the facility.
“Investigation revealed the accused, who is being held in custody there on an unrelated matter, assaulted a fellow inmate by punching them,” says a news release issued today by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.
Shantelle Webster, 29, is charged with assault and failure to comply with a probation order.
The accused remains in custody.
None of the allegations have been tested in court and Webster is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
