A 25-year-old man is facing impaired driving charges after being pulled over by an OPP officer on April 11 at 3:51 p.m.
Police say the officer with the Sault Ste. Marie Ontario Provincial Police was conducting general patrol on Highway 17 when they observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed near Batchawana Bay.
A traffic stop was conducted, and an investigation determined the vehicle’s driver had consumed alcoholic beverages.
As a result, Kyle Porcheron of Batchawana Bay was arrested and charged with:
- Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
- Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Careless driving
- Speeding
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on May 5 in Sault Ste. Marie.
He was issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
None of the allegations have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
This is the 14th person who has been charged with impaired driving this year by the Sault Ste. Marie OPP.
Const. Ashley Nickle, the OPP's media relations officer, said at this point last year they had only laid five impaired driving charges.
