Property Crimes:

Garage Break and Enters

• Two garages on Park Street were broken into over the past weekend and Tuesday overnight. A number of tools and some beer were reported stolen.
• A garage on Frontenac Street was reported broken into. A Mercury boat motor and a Yamaha 4- wheeler were stolen.
• A garage on Boundary Road was broken into Tueday overnight. Some pop was reported stolen.

Garage Break and Enter Prevention Tips

• Keep your garage door closed and locked at all times.
• Use motion lights or timing devices to turn inside lights on and off.
• Exterior doors should be solid core. Hinges should be on the inside. Seal gaps between the door and frame in order to prevent a jimmy bar from being used.
• Install deadbolt locks on all exterior doors
• Secure all accessible windows with secondary blocking devices
• Lock all sheds.
• Make sure you let your neighbours know if you’re planning to be away, even if just for the weekend. That way, they can keep an eye out for any unusual activity around your home.
• Report any suspicious activities in your neighbourhood such as unknown vehicles, persons, hanging around or circling the block, unusual noises or unfamiliar parked vehciles.

Vehicles Broken Into

Vehicles were vandalized and some entered in the downtown area, the P-Patch and the east end. Purses, gym bags, a laptop, wallets, and a camera inside a roots camera bag, were some of the items reported stolen. Once again, city police would like to remind the public to lock their doors, park in busy, well lit areas and do not leave valuables in plain sight in the vehicle. If you leave items in your vehicle and they're visible, the chances your vehicle will get broken into increase greatly. Very few auto break-ins are "random". The thieves usually see something out in the open. Valuable items that thieves target are GPS units, MP3 players, laptops, money, purses, wallets, packages and so forth. If you can't take the items with you, secure them in a safe place in your vehicle, like a locked glove compartment or your trunk.
