Male Arrested and Charged with Sexual Offences
Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service Investigation Unit arrested a 47 year-old male on the 14th of December at 1 pm at his residence and charged him with one count of sexual assault, one count of sexual interference and one count of invitation to sexual touching. It is alleged that officers concluded a dated sexual assault investigation that involved the step-daughter of the accused that resulted in the charges. The accused is to appear in bail court this morning.
Child Pornography Investigation results in Arrest and Charges
Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service Technological Crime Unit and the Emergency Services Unit arrested 30 year-old Mark Hopkin of 230 Spruce Street on the 14th of December at his residence and charged him with one count of possession of child pornography and one count of making child pornography available on the internet.
It is alleged that the Technological Crime Unit commenced an on-line pornography investigation on the 15th of September 2011. As a result of the investigation, officers executed a search warrant at the residence of the accused on the morning of the 14th of December and the accused was subsequently arrested. A laptop computer was seized from his home. The accused is to appear in bail court his morning.
Female Arrested on Outstanding Warrant for Bail Violations
Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 28 year-old Hillary Cartmill of 1692 Third Line West on the 14th of December on an outstanding warrant at her residence and charged her with two counts of breach of a recognizance order. The chargers are in relation to the accused breaching the conditions of the order on the 2nd of December by not residing where she was supposed to and also breaching curfew conditions. The accused is to appear in bail court this morning.
Two Domestic Related Arrests
Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested a 46 year-old male at 5:12 am this morning and charged him with two counts of assault. It is alleged that on the 15th of December just before 5 am, officers responded to a domestic dispute at the residence of the accused and discovered that he had assaulted his common law girlfriend. The accused is to appear in bail court this morning.
Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested a 24 year-old male at 5:13 pm last evening and charged him with one count of break and enter and one count of assault. It is alleged that on the 14th of December at approximately 4:45 pm the accused attended and forced his way into the residence of his ex –girlfriend and assaulted her. The accused is to appear in court on the 25th of January.
Two Males Arrested for Assault
Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested a 16 year-old and 18 year-old male at 2:30 pm yesterday afternoon as a result of an assault complaint that involved three youths allegedly attacking another youth in the area of Tancred Street around noon yesterday. The victim received non-life threatening injuries as a result of being kicked and punched several times by the three males.
The 18 year-old, Jacob Diamond, of #2-48 Wellington Street East was charged with one count of assault and is to appear in court on the 23rd of January. The 16 year-old youth was also charged with one count of assault and is to appear in court on the 17th of January. The third male is known to police and officers are attempting to locate him.
Break and Enter Report
A residence in the 700 block of Fourth Line East was broken into sometime Monday evening.
Mischief Report
Tires were slashed on a vehicle parked in the parking lot at 731 Pine Street.
