Pedestrian and Vehicle Collision At approximately 7:41 am this morning City police responded to a collision involving a pedestrian and a vehicle at the intersection of St. George’s Avenue and John Street.

At approximately 7:41 am this morning City police responded to a collision involving a pedestrian and a vehicle at the intersection of St. George’s Avenue and John Street.

The pedestrian, a 64 year-old male, was transported to hospital by ambulance with serious injuries.

Police would like to advise the public that the intersection remains closed for investigation purposes and should be aware that traffic is being re-routed.

The investigation is ongoing. There are no other details to be released at this time.

Male Arrested with Impaired Driving Causing Bodily Harm:

On the 11th of February around 5 pm the Sault Ste Marie Police, Fire and Ambulance Service responded to a motor vehicle collision with injuries that occurred at the intersection of Queen Street at Elgin Street. Preliminary investigation revealed that at approximately 4:57 pm a 1991 Chev Pick up that was travelling westbound on Queen Street East struck a 1996 Buick that was northbound on Elgin Street. Two persons from the Buick were transported to hospital by ambulance, the 18 year-old male driver with non-life threatening injuries and a 21 year-old female passenger with major injuries. Traffic Services are continuing to investigate the collision this morning.
The driver of the Chev pick up, 28 year-old Bradley Hallaert of 122 Parkland Crescent was arrested and charged with one count of impaired driving causing bodily harm. He is to appear in bail court this morning.

Domestic Related Arrest:

A 37 year-old male was arrested on the 11th of February at a west end residence and charged with two counts of assault and one count of break, enter and commit. It is alleged that on the 31st of January and the 11th of February the accused assaulted his girlfriend at her residence by punching her in the face. The victim received non-life threatening injuries as a result of the assaults. The accused was also wanted on an outstanding warrant for a break and enter. He is to appear in bail court this morning.

Possession

28 year-old Joseph Grasley of #104-379 Lake Street was arrested on the 12th of February at 12:59 am on Pittsburg Avenue and charged with one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance. It is alleged that on the 12th of February at approximately 12:56 am city police stopped the accused on Pittsburg for speeding on Wallace Terrace. Officers suspected that the accused was under the influence of alcohol and when given a road side screening device test he registered a warn. Officers issued him a twelve hour licence suspension and when they were dealing with they found him to be in possession of a small amount of cannabis marijuana. He is to appear in court on the 16th of March.

Two Male Youths Arrested after Causing Damage at Local Youth Home:

Two male youths, aged 13 and 14 were arrested on the 11th of February at 11:37 am at a local Youth Home and charged with one count of mischief. It is alleged that on the 11th of February at approximately 11:12 am the youths caused damage at the home after kicking in a front door and ripping off eavestrough. The 13 year-old is to appear in court on the 17th of March and the he 14 year-old was further charged with one count of breach of probation as at the time of the offence the accused was on probation to keep the peace and be of good behaviour and will be appearing in bail court this morning.

Female Shoplifter Charged:

31 year-old Cynthia Assiginack of #43-864 Queen Street East was arrested on the 11th of February at 7:54 pm at Sears at the Station Mall and charged with one count of theft under. It is alleged that on the 11th of February just after 7 pm the accused attended at Sears and stole some perfume and four MP4-Video Players. She was apprehended by security and held for police. She is to appear in court on the 9th March.

Property Crimes:

Robbery Incident at HR Lash:


At approximately 10:20 am on the 11th of February, a lone male entered HR Lash on John Street and took some clothing, placed them in a leather bag and attempted to leave the store without paying. He was stopped by a staff member and a scuffle ensued. The suspect broke free and ran in a northbound direction. The staff member ran after the male for a short distance and was able to recover the stolen items after the suspect dropped the bag while fleeing. The staff member received non-life threatening injuries during the struggle with the suspect. The suspect was described as white, in his mid 40’s, approximately 5’10”, slim build with a moustache. He was wearing a white or cream jacket with a blue collar, a blue or black hat with flaps on the side, dark pants and had glasses on.

Break and Enter:

Petro Canada on Trunk Road was entered around 1:10 am this morning. An alarm at the business was activated and when officers attended they discovered a broken window. Officers searched the area with negative results. Nothing appeared to be stolen.
