Notice to Public
The Sault Ste Marie Police Service is presently investigating a theft report where two male suspects attended at a residence, in the east end, to clean the carpets. The tenant had previously been contacted, by phone from North Bay, to have the carpets cleaned. The suspects offer a very low cleaning price to make it attractive to the home owner. Once the suspects arrive at the residence they separate to clean in different areas of the home, making it difficult for the homeowner to watch over their activities. The “cleaners”, who are not equipped to do a good cleaning job, advise that they will have to return with the proper cleaning equipment to complete the job. Once they have left the homeowner discovers that items are missing.

The two suspects in this incident are described as:
1. Male / white, mid 30’s, blond hair, 5’8” tall, slim build.
2. Male/ white, mid 40’s, grey hair, 6’ tall, medium build with a scruffy looking appearance
The suspects were seen driving off in a red Ford Mustang.

Police have received information of a similar occurrence in Sudbury. In that incident the suspects called the victim, from North Bay, stating they were coming to Sudbury and were offering special low prices to clean carpets. The suspects stole $500 from that victim.

The public is advised to be leery of special offers especially if the offer is too good to be true. If dealing with an out of town company check with the Better Business Bureau before you agree to any services. It always pays to know who you’re dealing with.
