OFFICER INJURED BY FLEEING CAR Yesterday at about 7:20 p.m., police went to the rear parking lot of the Group Health Centre to make an arrest regarding trafficking of a controlled drug.

Yesterday at about 7:20 p.m., police went to the rear parking lot of the Group Health Centre to make an arrest regarding trafficking of a controlled drug. When officers attempted to arrest the male, he got into his vehicle and drove it at one of the officers, striking him as he sped away. A short pursuit ensued with the vehicle being boxed in by a police car at the end of Stevens Street. The accused used his vehicle to ram the police car in a bid to escape. A second police car was then used to pin the vehicle.

Michael Casey, age 39, of 270 St. James, Apt #1, is now facing the following charges: Dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, trafficking in a controlled substance, and possession for the purpose of trafficking. The officer suffered minor injuries as a result of being struck by the vehicle


POLICE CATCH 'EM IN THE ACT
Yesterday at about 7:40 a.m., police were called to the Downbeat Lounge at 740 Queen Street East about a break-in that was in progress.
