Assault Charges Laid

The only arrest entry from the past 24 hours is 46 year-old William Lothrop of 134 White Birch Drive in Garden River, arrested on the 11th of August at 10:15 am at the city police station after turning himself in.
He is charged with one count of assault regarding an incident that took place at his place of employment on the 25th of July involving a disagreement with a co-worker. It is alleged that the accused punched and kicked the male co-worker several times. The victim received non-life threatening injuries.
The accused is to appear in court on the 13th of September.

Accident on Carmen's Way

City police attended at a motor vehicle collision at 7:03 am at Carmen’s Way and Second Line involving a Dump Truck and a Chev Blazer that sent the 29 year-old male driver of the Chev to hospital by ambulance for the treatment of non-life threatening ibjuries. It is alleged that the driver of the Chev Blazer that was east bound on Second Line, proceeded through a red light at the intersection of Carmen’s Way and struck a Dump Truck that was making a left hand turn from Carmen’s Way onto Second Line.
The accident is still under investigation and charges are pending.

Accident on Pim Street

At approximately 3:24 pm yesterday, City police responded to a motor vehicle collision on Pim Street that involved three vehicles that sent one of the drivers to hospital by ambulance. It is alleged that a Pontiac Van which was travelling southbound on Pim Street struck a Buick car that was stopped on Pim Street behind a Pontiac vehicle. The force of the collision resulted in the Buick car colliding into the back of the Pontiac Vehicle. The driver of the Buick car, a 27 year-old female was taken to hospital by ambulance for the treatment of minor injuries. All three vehicles received moderate damage.
The driver of the Pontiac Van, 55 year-old Samuel Kleiman of 51 Lansdowne Avenue was charged with one count of Careless Driving under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.

Property Crimes: The following Thefts Reported Yesterday

• A vehicle parked in a rear residence in the 300 block of Cathcart was entered sometime overnight of 10th-11th of August. Camping equipment consisting of a tent, sleeping bag, a chargeable flashlight, and a small tool box were stolen. Also stolen were a cell phone, a GPS, an I-Pod with the charging and docking cables and a cell phone.
• A licence plate was reported stolen off a vehicle on Placid Avenue
• A Stihl Chainsaw was reported stolen from a vehicle on Second Line East overnight from the 4th-5th of August.


Mischief and Break and Enter Reported to the Algoma Central Railway Agawa Canyon Train:

There was a break and enter to the Dining car on the Agawa Canyon Tour Train that was parked along the Carmen’s Way area reported at 2:30 am this morning. There was damaged done to a door and window and some liquor and cash was reported stolen.

Train Safety Tips

The Canadian National Police Service contacted city police yesterday regarding a report from a witness that was walking on Whitefish Island on the evening of the 6th of August around 8:30 – 9:00 pm, that observed several teenage males running along a train that had just stopped on the swing/train bridge over Whitefish Island under the International Bridge. The youths were also observed jumping between the cars.

City Police would like to advise the public that anyone that is playing on trains or in the area of trains and railway tracks are risking their own lives and those of others by their actions. This is not only very dangerous, but also illegal as they are trespassing.
Trespassing which can include:
• Playing, walking, and running on or beside railroad tracks.
• Driving a bike, car, ATV, snowmobile or any other vehicle on or beside railroad tracks.
• Taking a short cut across railroad tracks or railroad property.
• Entering railroad yards at any time.

The Canadian National Police as well as the Sault Ste Marie Police Service will be monitoring this area and charges will be laid for any trespassers that are found.
