Four persons to attend bail court:
1) A 27-year-old male was arrested on Aug. 2nd and charged with one count of assault and one count of breach of probation. It is alleged that at approx. 12:30 pm on Saturday the accused attended at the east end residence of the victim and while assaulted her by hitting her with a door and pushing her. At the time of the offence the accused was on probation with a condition to keep the peace. The victim did not require medical assistance.
2) On Saturday Aug 2nd city police attended at the Algoma Treatment and Remand Centre regarding an assault. Upon arrival the officers arrested and charged 20-year-old Alan Lance. It is alleged that the accused assaulted a fellow in mate by pushing then victim to the ground and then punching him in the face. The victim was treated for minor injuries to his face and arm. Alan Lance is charged with one count of assault.
3) At approx. 11:00 pm last night city police were called to an east end address regarding a domestic assault. Upon arrival officers received information from a female victim and subsequently arrested her boyfriend. It is alleged that the accused, a 19-year-old male assaulted the victim by punching, grabbing and choking her. It is further alleged that the accused detained the victim at the residence and threatened to kill the victim. Victim suffered bruising to several parts of her body. The accused is charged with one count of assault, one count of threatening death and one count of forcible confinement.
4) Yesterday evening at approx. 10:00 pm city police observed a vehicle driving in an erratic manner on Conmee Ave at Carmen’s Way. When the officer attempted to stop the vehicle it accelerated and sped off. The vehicle was followed and observed to disobey several stop signs and traffic signal lights. The pursuit ended when the driver of the vehicle fled from the car at the West St. entrance to Essar Steel. The accused was arrested after a short foot pursuit. Investigation by police revealed that the vehicle, a silver Nissan Sentra was stolen from Cambrian. The licence plates on the vehicle were also stolen. At the time of these offences the accused was on probation.
Nissan Richard Nanchin, age 30, of 109 Carufel Ave. Apt # 1, is charged with one count of dangerous driving, one count of flight from police, two counts of possession of property obtained by crime and one count of breach of probation.
Youth arrested for mischief:
On Saturday Aug 2nd at approx. 4:00 pm city police attended at the city bus terminal regarding a mischief complaint. It is alleged that a 17-year-old male punched the bus door and broke the glass window after being asked to leave the bus. The accused is charged with one count of mischief and will be appearing in court on Sept.9th at 9:30 am.
Male arrested for impaired driving:
On Monday Aug 4th at approx. 4:00 pm city police stopped a vehicle on Allard St. after it was observed driving in an erratic manner. Upon speaking to the driver the officers formed the opinion that the driver’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol. Charged with one count of impaired driving and one count of drive over 80 mgs is 29-year-old Leroy Peltier, of 72 Gabow Bend St. of Wikwemikong. He will be appearing in court on Sept 8th at 9:00 am.
City police investigated break and enters to the following locations:
1. 100 block of Penno Rd - jewellery and electronic items stolen.
2. 100 block of Cambridge Pl- unknown what was taken at this time.
3. 100 block of Murphy St. - two bikes taken from garage.
4. 100 block of Willoughby St. - 3 lawnmowers, a bike and tractor parts stolen from garage.
5. 900 block of Lake St. - unknown what was stolen.
6. 100 block of St. Georges Ave E. - attempt entry by three males - on Aug 3rd at approx. 9:40 pm.
7. The Beer Store - 275 Second Line W. - Market Mall. Two males observed breaking window and steal beer.
Mischief reports were taken at the following locations:
1. 400 block of Pim St. - vehicle keyed.
2. 100 Celene Crt - shed damaged.
3. 300 block of Albert St. W. - bike damaged.
4. 200 block of Queen St. E. - vehicle damaged.
5. 500 block of Boundary Rd. - vehicle damaged.
6. 250 Bruce St. - The Beer Store- window damaged - Two females seen fleeing from scene.
7. Mac’s Mart- 650 Boundary Rd- front window smashed.
Thefts were reported at the following locations:
1. 100 block of Crawford St. - items taken from vehicle.
2. 100 block of Bowker St. - items taken from vehicle.
3. 200 block of Spadina Ave. bicycle stolen.
4. 100 block of Wilcox Ave. - cash, personal papers and identification stolen.
5. 100 block of Church St. - bicycle stolen.
6. Two vehicles were entered and items stolen from the 100 block of Copernicus Dr.
Dumpster Fires:
The Sault Ste Marie Fire Department and the Sault Ste Marie Police Service responded to two reports of dumpster fires at the rear of Maitland Motors, 1124 Great Northern Rd. over the weekend. Reports were received on Saturday Aug 2nd at approx. 1:30 pm and again on Monday Aug 4th at approx. 5:45 pm. On both occasions the fires were put out and no damage was reported.
