Update for Motor Vehicle collision from the 16th February at Carmen’s Way and Conmee Avenue:

Members of the Sault Ste Marie Police, Fire and Ambulance Services attended to motor vehicle collision on Saturday the 16th of February just before 3 pm that resulted in a 51 year-old female being airlifted to Toronto for the treatment of non-life threatening injuries. It is alleged that the 61 year-old female was driving a 1995 Oldsmobile Achieve westbound on Conmee Avenue when she failed to stop at the stop sign at Carmen’s Way and her vehicle was struck by a transport that was travelling southbound on Carmen’s Way. The driver of the car had to be extricated from her vehicle. The driver of the transport was not injured.
The driver of the Oldsmobile, Norma Bradley of 95 Anita Boulevard was charged with one count of disobey stop sign – fail to stop under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.

Snowmachine Accident

City police also responded to a snowmobile accident with injuries that occurred on Friday the 15th of February that occurred at 10:38 pm on the groomed trails between Creek Road and Maki Road. It is alleged that the 46 year-old male driver of the Polaris snowmobile lost control and struck a tree. Fortunately, city police had an officer working on patrol on the Police Service’s snowmobile at the time of the accident and was able to transport an ambulance paramedic to the scene quickly. Sault Search and Rescue also responded quickly to the scene and provided a sleigh that was used to remove the victim from the scene to the waiting ambulance.
The driver of the snowmobile remains in hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The following seven persons are to appear in bail court this morning:

1) A 17 year-old male youth was arrested on the 16th of February at 12:21 am on Anna Street and charged with one count of break and enter with intent, one count of trespassing at night, one count of attempted theft and one count of breach of probation under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. It is alleged that on the 15th of February at approximately 11:30 pm the accused entered several garages and went through several vehicles in the area of Anna Street. At the time of the offence the accused was on probation with conditions to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.

2) 23 year-old James Brandt of 1652 Herkimer Street was arrested on the 16th of February at 1:10 am on Hughes Street and charged with three count of breach of a release document. It is alleged that on the 16th of February at 12:55 am the accused attended at a residence on Hughes Street and banged on the glass window of the door breaking it. The accused then entered the residence. The homeowner was inside at the time and called police. When officers attended and ran a check on the male they discovered that he was wanted on outstanding warrants for breaching his undertaking release document. He was taken into custody at that time Police continued their investigation and the accused was further charged with one count of mischief under $5,000.00 and one count of unlawfully in a dwelling house.

3) A 17 year-old male youth was arrested on the 17th of February at the Sault Area Hospital and charged with one count of mischief under $5,000.00, one count of cause disturbance and one count of breach of probation under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. It is alleged that on the 17th of February at approximately 1:50 pm the accused was at the hospital and caused a disturbance by yelling and swearing at police and at medical staff. It is further alleged that he damaged a heart monitor when he threw it against the wall. At the time of the incident he was on probation conditions to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.

4) A 45 year-old male was arrested on the 17th of February at 1:05 pm at his residence and charged with one count of unlawfully in a dwelling house and three counts of breach of probation. It is alleged that on the 17th of February at approximately 10:20 am the accused attended at his ex-girlfriend’s residence to speak to her. At the time of the incident the accused was not to attend inside her residence or to communicate with her.

5) A 32 year-old male was arrested on the 17th of February 4:38 pm at a west end residence and charged with three counts of breach of probation. It is alleged that on the 17th of February at 4:30 pm the accused attended at his ex-girlfriend’s residence and got into a verbal argument with her. At the time of the incident the accused was under the influence of alcohol and was on probation conditions not to consume any alcohol, not to attend at the residence of his ex-girlfriend or communicate with her.

6) A 23 year-old male was arrested on the 18th of February at 11:38 am and charged with one count of assault. It is alleged that on the 18th of February at 11:30 am the accused assaulted his common-law partner by grabbing her around the shoulders and pushing her. There were no injuries reported.

7) 36 year-old Christopher Rose of 161 Fifth Avenue in Ottawa, Ontario was arrested on the 16th of February at 12:40 pm at the city police station and charged with one count of theft under $5,000.00. It is alleged that on the 15th of February at approximately 2:46 pm the accused attended at the Esso Tiger Express on Trunk Road and filled his vehicle with $11.03 worth of fuel and drove off without paying.

Arrested for Domestic Incidents

A 28 year-old male was arrested on the 16th of February at 6:33 pm at the city police station after turning himself in regarding domestic related incidents. He was charged with one count of mischief under $5,000.00 and one count of assault. It is alleged that on the 16th of February at approximately 2:30 am the accused got into a verbal argument with his ex-girlfriend in the parking lot of a local bar and smashed out the back window of her vehicle when he punched it. It is further alleged that in early September the two were involved in a domestic dispute at the ex-girlfriend’s residence and the accused assaulted her by pushing her and choking her. The accused is to appear in court on the 26th of March.

Shoplifting from Sears

47 year-old Gilda Greco of 1042 Queen Street East was arrested on the 16th of February at 12:05 pm at Sears in the Station Mall and charged with one count of theft under $5,000.00. It is alleged that on the 16th of February around 11:44 am the accused attended at Sears and stole a digital camera and a memory card valued at approximately $230.00. The accused was apprehended by store security and held for police. She is to appear in court on the 17th of March.

The following mischief reports were taken over the weekend:

1) A vehicle parked at the Terry Fox Apartment Complex had the driver’s side window smashed on the 15th of February.

2) A vehicle parked in the 344A Dacey Road Apartment complex had the driver’s rear window and ignition smashed on the 15th of February.

3) A vehicle parked at St. Basils High School was damaged sometime during the day on the 16th of February.

4) Two tires of a vehicle parked on Albert Street West were slashed sometime between the 8th and the 18th of February.
