Five persons to appear in bail court On Friday February 18, members of the Sault Ste Marie Police Service arrested a 36-year-old male for breach of a recognizance.
Five persons to appear in bail court
On Friday February 18, members of the Sault Ste Marie Police Service arrested a 36-year-old male for breach of a recognizance. It is alleged that the accused breached the conditions of his recognizance by being out of his residence without his surety. John Vipond, age 36, of 9 Railroad Ave is charged with one count of breach of a recognizance.

On the morning of Friday February 18th members of the Sault Ste Marie Police Service arrested a 29-year-old male for assault and choking. It is alleged that the accused assaulted and then choked his common-law girlfriend. The victim did not require medical attention. The accused is charged with one count of assault and one count of overcoming resistance to commission of offence.

In the early morning hours of Sunday February 20th members of the Sault Ste Marie Police Service arrested a 19-year-old male for assault and mischief. It is alleged that between December 19th 2010 and February 20th 2011 the accused assaulted his girlfriend on two occasions. It is further alleged that the accused caused damage to her vehicle on two occasions and also damaged the vehicle of another person. The victim did not require medical attention. The accused is charged with two counts of assault and three counts of mischief.

On Monday February 21st members of the Sault Ste Marie Police Service arrested a 23-year-old male and charged him with two counts of breach of probation. It is alleged that the accused breached conditions of his probation order by making numerous phone calls to his ex-common-law spouse and by consuming alcohol.

On Monday February 21st members of the Sault Ste Marie Police Service arrested a 23-year-old male for assault and breach of probation. It is alleged that the accused assaulted his girlfriend by grabbing her by the throat. It is further alleged that at the time of this offence the accused was on a probation order release with conditions to keep the peace. Then accused is charged with one count of assault and one count of breach of probation. The victim did not require medical attention.

Two males arrested for impaired driving
On Friday February 19th members of the Sault Ste Marie Police Service arrested a 21-year-old male for impaired driving. It is alleged that the accused was operating a motor vehicle on Bonney St. while his ability to do so was impaired by alcohol. Joshua Rosene, age 21 of 81 Glasgow Ave is charged with one count of impaired driving and one count of drive over 80 mgs. Mr. Rosene is to appear in court on March 21st at 9:00 am.

On Monday February 21st members of the Sault Ste Marie Police Service arrested a 32-year-old male for impaired driving. It is alleged that at 2:30 am the accused was operating a vehicle, on Great Northern Rd., while his ability to do so was impaired by alcohol. Alan Wells, age 32, of 731 Pine St. Apt # 306 is charged with one count of impaired driving and one count of drive over 80mgs. Mr. Wells is to appear in court on March 21st at 9:00 am.

Pedestrian motor vehicle collision
On Friday February 18, at approximately 4:05 pm, members of the Sault Ste Marie Police Service investigated a motor vehicle–pedestrian collision at the intersection of Wellington St. E. and MacGregor Ave. It is alleged that a pedestrian ran in front of a westbound vehicle and was struck. Pedestrian was transported to the Sault Area Hospital and treated for minor injuries. As a result of police investigation Melissa Swanson, age 26, of 1100 Wellington St. E. was charged under Sault Ste Marie City By-Law 77-200 (43) for pedestrian failing to yield the right of way. The driver of the vehicle was not injured.

Break and enter
A break and enter was reported to a garage in the 100 block of Carlbert St. over the weekend. It is unknown at this time what was taken.

Mischief
A business in the 100 block of Tancred St. had a window smashed.
A vehicle parked in the 300 block of Great Northern Rd. was scratched.
A residence in the 200 block of Turner Ave was reported damaged. A group of youth people was seen in the area.

Theft
Two vehicles were reported entered in the 100 block of Oryme Ave. Personal items and a wallet were reported stolen.
A vehicle parked at the airport was reported entered. Electronics and cash were reported taken.
A vehicle parked in the 100 block of Elmwood Ave was entered. Cash and personal papers were taken.
