The following two persons will be appearing in bail court this morning:

1) A 46 year-old male was arrested at the city police station around 6:30 pm on the 18th of June and charged with four counts of careless use or storage of firearms, breach of regulations, one count of obstruct justice and one count of perjury. It is alleged that the accused attended in bail court yesterday morning regarding a domestic assault and while testifying on the stand under oath, he advised the court that he did not possess any firearms. While police were investigating the matter further, they discovered that the accused had four long guns at his downtown residence. The four long guns, some ammunition and one pellet handgun were seized. None of the firearms were registered or safely stored. The accused will be appearing in bail court again this morning.

2) 43 year-old Shelly Davison of #1-132 Cathcart Street was arrested yesterday at her downtown residence and charged with one count of breach of a release order. It is alleged that on the 17th of June around 1:30 am the accused attended at a central area residence that she was on conditions not to attend due to previous altercations she had with a person living there.

Youth Charged with Assault & Mischief

A 14 year-old male was arrested at 4:25 pm on the 18th of June at his west end residence and charged with one count of assault and one count of mischief under $5,000.00. It is alleged that on the 17th of June around 10:45 the accused got into an argument with his parents and punched a whole in the wall. It is further alleged that the accused grabbed and pushed his mother against a wall. There were no injuries reported. The accused is to appear in court on the 24th of July.

Youth Arrested after Assault at High school

A 15 year-old youth was arrested at his central area residence and charged with one count of assault. It is alleged that the accused assaulted a fellow male student at a local high school on the 14th of June 2007. It is alleged that the two were waiting for the bus around 3 pm when the accused started to throw stones at the victim. While the victim was attempting to walk away the accused punched him in the head and face. There were no injuries reported. The accused is to appear in court on the 24th of July.

The following break and enters were reported yesterday and overnight:

1) Queen Elizabeth School on Elizabeth Street was entered between the 17th of June after 8:10 pm and 6:30 am on the 18th of June. It is not known at this time what was taken.

2) St. Patrick School on Texas Avenue was entered between the 15th and 16th of June. Three laptops were reported stolen.

3) The concession field house at the John Rhodes Centre was entered overnight between the 17th and 18th of June. Some chocolate bars and ice cream were stolen.

4) A residence on Wilson Street was entered sometime during the day on the 18th of June. Nothing was reported stolen.

5) An apartment on Wellington Street East was entered between the 1st and the 18th of June. It is not known at this time if anything was taken.

6) An apartment on Queen Street East was entered between 6 pm and 7:30 pm on the 18th of June.

7) The Savings World Pawn Shop in the Churchill Plaza was entered early this morning around 2:47 am. It is not known at this time what exactly was taken, possibly some electronics.

Police Seek Assistance

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance regarding paintball incidents:

On the 14th of June around 12:10 a.m. a 38-year-old male was riding his bike eastbound on the Second Line East hill when he heard what he thought was a vehicle back firing near him.

Immediately after hearing this, he was struck by four paintballs that were fired from a black eastbound black Ford Ranger pickup truck that had slowed down beside him in the curb lane.

The vehicle accelerated at a high rate of speed after in an easterly direction.

The bicyclist was struck in the elbow and back area by what appeared to be green paintball residue.

He received injuries that did not require medical attention.

A further description of the truck is as follows: possibly a late 90’s or early 2000, a very loud muffler or exhaust, possibly a checker plated metal tool box in the box of the pickup truck.

The victim could not provide a description of the driver or any passengers.

On the 18th of June around 1:07 a.m. a 54-year-old woman was walking home from the casino with her husband on Queen Street West near Huron Street when a westbound black coloured pickup truck with three males in it, slowed down and one of the males shot paintballs at them.

Both victims were struck in the back area.

No injuries were reported at the time.

The vehicle sped off westbound.

The complainants advised that this truck had a noisy muffler.

It is not known at this time if these two incidents are directly related.
