On Sunday, Sault Ste. Marie Police officers charged a 34-year-old man and a 30-year-old man with assault causing bodily harm.
On Jan. 23, a 911 caller reported an assault at the Algoma Treatment and Remand Centre that occurred the previous day.
An investigation revealed the two accused were involved in a verbal dispute with the victim when the 30-year-old struck the victim multiple times with his hands and feet, police said.
The 34-year-old then struck the victim in the head with a closed fist. “The victim sustained serious physical injuries and was transported to hospital.”
On Sunday, officers attended the treatment and remand centre to arrest both individuals.
Jonathan Briault-Dewar, 34, is charged with:
- Assault Causing Bodily Harm
Brandon Wyatt, 30, is charged with:
- Assault Causing Bodily Harm
- Failure to Comply with Probation Order
Both accused continue to be held in custody pending a bail hearing.
None of the allegations have been tested in court and the accused are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
