Police Requesting further Assistance in this Robbery Investigation

Update to 23rd of March Armed Robbery at Gore Street Mac’s Convenience Store

Arrest of 17 year-old Male Youth

Around 3:09 am this morning a lone male entered the Mac’s Convenience Store on Gore Street with a broken glass bottle and demanded cash from the clerk. Another customer in the store scarred the suspect off before he was able to obtain any cash. The male was described as being white, around 16 years old, 5 feet tall, 120 lbs, thin build, short black hair and was wearing a black hoodie. Officers attended in the area but were unable to locate the suspect.

A 17 year-old male youth was arrested by Investigation Services on the 27th of April at 6:12 pm at a local youth home in connection to this armed robbery. He has been charged with one count of robbery and will be appearing in bail court this morning.

Investigation Services are looking to speak to the customer that was in the store at the time of this robbery. The customer is asked to please contact Detective Sonny Spina at 949-6300 Extension 389.

Male Arrested on Outstanding Warrants

25 year-old Myles Jordon Ketola of no fixed address was arrested on an outstanding warrant the 27th of April at 9:17 am at an east end residence. He was wanted in relation to two residence break and enter incidents that took place over this past weekend. The first occurred on the 24th of April at approximately 11:58 pm when the accused and another male forced their way into an apartment of a male known to them, assaulted him and his roommate, stole a backpack, some cash and various clothing items. During the incident, the accused also held a knife to the throat of the male residents. The second incident occurred on the 26th of April at a Gibb Street residence. It is alleged that the accused and another male broke into the residence around 2:29 am. The homeowner was inside at the time and called police. The males fled from the residence with some beer and once outside, the accused pointed a handgun at the homeowner who was watching them from the window. Police searched the area for the two males, but could locate them at the time. The homeowner and the accused are known to each other. As a result, the accused has been charged with two counts of break, enter and commit, one count of possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose, one count of pointing a firearm, one count of assault with a weapon and two counts of breach of probation. He is to appear in bail court this morning. The second male suspect in this incident is known to police and they are currently attempting to locate him.

Male Shoplifter Arrested

38 year-old Scott Erdman of 168 Andrew Street was arrested on the 27th of April at 10:20 am at Zellers in the Station Mall after he allegedly attended at the store yesterday morning and stole some clothing. He was apprehended by security and held for police. At the time of the incident, the accused was on probation with conditions that he keep the peace and be good. He has been charged with one count of theft under $5,000.00, one count of possession of stolen property and two counts of beach of probation. He will appear in court on the 31st of May.

National Railway Safety Week

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service will be assisting the CN Police during National Railway Safety Week. (April 26th-30th). CN Police Constable Lisa Burt-Jones and Community Services officers will be conducting Railway Safety Information and Highway Traffic Act enforcement in relation to railway crossings today, between 11:00 am and 3:00 pm at various railway crossing locations in the city.
