POLICE OBSERVE THEFT
Yesterday at 11:15 am, a 16-year-old male from Garden River entered a 1992 Dodge truck parked in the Zellers parking lot on Northern Ave. and stole a knife and sunglasses valued at $60.00. A police officer observed this theft and arrested the accused. The youth was charged with theft under $5,000.00 and will appear in court at the end of Feb.


TWO YOUTHS ASSAULT PARENTS
Yesterday, police officers were called to an address in the northern section of the city in regards to two young offenders out of control being assaultive and destructive. The accused, a 17-year-old male along with his 17-year-old brother, had escalated a verbal argument to the point of becoming assaultive towards their parents and an adult male child youth worker.

One of the youths did assault the worker with a pair of pliers by throwing the pliers at him. The pliers struck him in the shin causing an injury. Both boys were very abusive and threatening to their parents and further destructive by smashing remote controls, damaging walls and telephones. During the altercation one of the males assaulted his mother by shoving her. Officers arrested and charged one of the youths with Assault with a Weapon and the other with Assault. They will appear in court in early March.


WOMAN ARRESTED FOR THREATENING DEATH
Yesterday at 1:00 pm, Eve Nicholson, age 29 of 116 Weldon Ave. allegedly went to another home in her neighbourhood, where she threatened to kill the victim, a 32-year-old adult female. Nicholson assaulted her by grabbing her in the chest and arm while stating the threat. The victim pushed the accused out of her residence and closed the door.

The accused returned to her residence at 116 Weldon Avenue. Patrol officers subsequently went to the Nicholson home and arrested and charged her with Threatening Death/Bodily Harm and Assault. She will appear in court March 3rd.


YOUTHS SHOPLIFTING AT CANADIAN TIRE
Yesterday at approx. 4:25 pm, a store security officer observed a 16-year-old male youth open a package of Fuji film cd recordable discs valued at $9.17 and put them in the middle compartment of his jacket. During this time another 16-year-old male youth was acting as a look out and helped to conceal the putting of tapes in the offenders jacket. One of the young offenders made a purchase of $22.98 and they left the Canadian Tire Store by the mall exit. The security officer apprehended them. Patrol officers attended and advised them they were both being charged with theft under $5,000.00. They are scheduled for court in early March.


ARRESTED ON OUTSTANDING WARRANT
At 1:52 this morning, patrol officers were called to an apartment complex on South Market St. for an intoxicated male in the hallway. Officers located Thomas Beavais, age 35 of 188 Bloor St. Beavais was attempting to visit a female whom he believed lived at the apartment complex. A police records check revealed that Beauvais had a first instance warrant for failing to appear for identification held by Michipicoten Township Police. Officers executed the warrant and arrested Beavais. He will appear in court in Wawa on March 17 at 1:00 pm.


OVERDOSED
Yesterday at 3:40 pm, police officers along with ambulance personnel were called to a home on Franklin Street where an adult male had taken an overdose of medication and had called the crisis line for help. Police made their way into the residence and located the male in a very medicated state. Five empty prescriptions were around him including morphine and depressants. The male was apprehended under the Mental Health Act and taken to the hospital by ambulance for treatment.


BREAK & ENTERS
The Police Service is currently investigating two break and enters from yesterday. Two males entered a home on Campbell Avenue after they broke a back window. Thieves went through the home and left via the back door. A residence on Bruce Street was also broken into and thieves removed a firebox from it. TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS
The Police Service was kept busy investigating 20 motor vehicle collisions yesterday. Most were of a minor nature and can be attributed to drivers failing to adjust to road conditions. Drivers are reminded to adjust to their driving patterns to the road conditions. Slippery roads require drivers to slow down and exercise more caution when driving.
