Theft Under $5,000 & Breach of Probation At approx. 2:50 pm yesterday afternoon officers from the Sault Ste Marie Police Service arrested a 48-year-old male and charged him with one count of theft under $ 5,000 and one count of breach of probation.

At approx. 2:50 pm yesterday afternoon officers from the Sault Ste Marie Police Service arrested a 48-year-old male and charged him with one count of theft under $ 5,000 and one count of breach of probation. It is alleged that the accused, William Archer of 429 Wellington St.E. Apt. 1A attended at the Trunk Rd. Esso on May 3rd and stole a book of “Dream Escape” tickets from the counter. The ticket book was valued at $ 280. The incident was captured on video. The accused was on probation at the time of this offence. He will be appearing in court on Aug 13th at 9:00 am.

Domestic Dispute

Yesterday evening the Sault Ste Marie Police Service attended at a west end residence in regards to a domestic dispute. Upon arrival at the home officers were informed by the victim that the accused had pushed and slapped her. As a result the accused, a 50-year-old male was arrested and charged with one count of assault. The accused was further charged with breaching conditions of his release order by consuming alcohol, harassing the victim and for failing to notify police of an address change. He will be appearing in bail court today. The victim did not require medical attention for any injuries.

Assault with a Toxic Liquid

Yesterday evening city police officers attended at a downtown store in regards to an assault. Upon arrival officers were informed by the victim that her ex-boyfriend attended at her place of employment and assault her by throwing a non-toxic liquid at her. The accused was located a short time later and arrested. The 49-year-old male is charged with one count of assault and will be appearing in bail court today.

The Sault Ste Marie Police Service received four reports of break and enter yesterday.

A residence in the 100 block of Country Club Pl. was entered and a lap top computer was stolen. A residence in the 1300 block of Goulais Ave was entered - unknown at this time what was taken. A residence in the 300 block of Elizabeth St was entered - jewellery and cash were taken.
The fourth break and enter occurred at a residence in the 100 block of Ferris St. at approx. 6:30 pm yesterday evening. Anyone that may have seen any suspicious persons in the area is asked to call the city police or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.

The Sault Ste Marie Police Service received two reports of attempted thefts of vehicles.

One occurred in the 400 block of Pim St. and the second occurred in the 500 block of Wellington St.W.

The Sault Ste Marie Police Service and the city fire department attended at four fire calls early this morning.

Garbage cans were set on fire in the 100 block of Chambers Ave, the 100 block of Glen Ave and to a dumpster at Sister Mary Clare School located at 178 Glen Ave. All three of these fires were reported between 12:45 am and 1:15 pm.
Last night at approx. 9:15pm city police received a 911 call in regarding a garage fire on Arizona Ave. The Sault Ste Marie Police Service and city fire department are treating this incident as arson. Anyone that
commits the offence of arson is liable to imprisonment for up to fourteen years in jail.

The Sault Ste Marie Police Service received two reports of mischief this morning.

The Ecstasy Shop, located at 268 Bruce St. had a front window smashed and a city bus shelter on Pine and McNabb was damaged.
