Yesterday City Police received 2 calls of break and enters. Yesterday morning officers attended at Bayview School on Pittsburgh Avenue. Yesterday afternoon thieves unsuccessfully attempted to gain entry into a residence in the 600 block of Bay Street.

Stolen Bikes

This is the time of year that the City Police start taking reports of calls of stolen bikes. Officers on a regular basis also receive calls of found bikes to be picked up. Often City Police cannot locate the owner of the recovered bike and it ends up being sold in the Police Auction. If your bike is registered, stolen and then recovered, City Police can return the bike to you. There have been occasions when police stop a person on a registered bike and find out that the bike is stolen and the person riding it is charged with possession of stolen property. During Police Week you can bring your bike in the Station Mall via the Laura Secord entrance and have it registered with the City Police at their display area. The Station Mall is allowing bikes into the Mall for these 3 dates only, and only through the Laura Secord entrance. Bikes are not to be ridden in the Mall and must be removed when the registration is complete. Registration dates are Wednesday May 18th from noon to 7 pm, and Thursday May 19th and Friday May 20th from 11 am to 7 pm. Only those citizens who live in Sault Ste. Marie and Prince Township can register their bikes with the City Police.
