Two Firearm Charges

1) The only bail court entry this morning is 71 year-old Sanders, Maurice Orr of 4545 Stateline Avenue, Texarkana, Texas. He was arrested on the 16th of October at 12:15 pm at Canada Customs on Huron Street and charged with one count of possession of a firearm in a vehicle and two counts of careless storage of a firearm. It is alleged that on the 16th of October at approximately 11:19 am the accused attempted to enter Canada through the customs port on Huron Street with a loaded semi-automatic handgun and a loaded 12 gauge shotgun. Customs officers located the firearms while conducting an inspection of his vehicle, arrested the accused and contacted city police.

2) 50 year-old Lynn Whalen (male) and 59 year-old Sharon Rogoschensky of 94 Pittsburgh Avenue were arrested at their residence on the 16th of October at 2:45 pm and both charged with one count of unauthorized possession of a firearm and one count of careless storage of a firearm. It is alleged that on October 2nd city police were called to a domestic dispute at their residence. When police arrived, the accused Lynn Whalen had already left the home and while investigating the incident they located a shotgun and rifle that were being carelessly stored in the residence. Further investigation revealed that the two accused did not have proper authorization to possess the firearms. Both are to appear in court on the 19th of November.

Charged with Mischief

20 year-old Wayne Mortimore of #2-70 James Street was arrested on the 16th of October at 7:30 pm and charged with one count of mischief under $5,000.00. It is alleged that on the evening of the 6th of October around 11:30 pm the accused attended at an east end residence of a person known to him and spray painted profanities on some windows of the residence. The accused is to appear in court on the 19th of November.

Impaired Driving

21 year-old Tyler Soucie of 154 Water Street in Thessalon, Ontario was arrested on the 16th of October at 5:21 pm on Palace Drive and charged with one count of impaired driving, one count of consume over the legal limit and one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance. It is alleged that on the 16th of October at 5:15 pm the accused was observed by city police driving his Ford pick up erratically on McNabb Street. Police stopped the vehicle on Palace Street and found the accused to be under the influence of alcohol. Officers also located a baggy in the vehicle that contained approximately 5.3 grams of marijuana. The accused is to appear in court on the 19th of November.

Theft Under $5,000 & Possession

33 year-old Christopher Clement was arrested on the 16th of October at 9:45 pm at the city police station and charged with one count of theft under $5,000.00 and one count of possession of property obtained by crime. It is alleged that the accused, while working as a correctional officer at the Algoma Remand and Treatment Centre on Great Northern Road, stole a gift card worth $75.00 from an inmate at the Centre. The card was taken from the inmate’s belongings sometime after the 10th of September and the 2nd of October. It is further alleged that the accused used the card at the Sport Check Store in the Cambrian Mall on the 29th of September to purchase some hockey equipment. The accused is to appear in court on the 19th of November.

Death Threats at Local Highschool

A 13 year-old male youth was arrested on the 16th of October at 2:20 pm at a local high school and charged with one count of threaten death or bodily harm. It is alleged that on the 16th of October at around 1:30 pm the accused, a student at a local high school, threatened to slit the throat of a staff member at the school. The accused is to appear in court on the 20th of November.


The following break and enters were reported yesterday and overnight:

1) Art Gabriel’s Mens Shop on Queen Street East was entered at approximately 1 am this morning. A citizen called city police after hearing the alarm and observing a male with a grey hood on and a dark blue jacket with white stripers across the shoulder running from the store carrying a black garbage bag. The male was last seen running south down the alley beside the store. Officers checked the area with negative results. Hugo Boss Polo Shirts were reported stolen.

2) An apartment on Albert Street West was entered sometime between 1 pm and 5:30 pm on the 16th of October. A Play Station 2 was reported stolen.

3) An attempt break and enter was reported to a residence on Simpson Street. No entry was gained.
