Female Arrested on Outstanding Warrant Officers with the Sault Ste.
Female Arrested on Outstanding Warrant

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 18 year-old Tara Swanson of #5-25 Maki Road on the 18th of October at 4 pm at the police station on an outstanding warrant and charged her with one count of fail to attend for prints. It is alleged that on the 22nd of September the accused failed to attend for prints in relation to a shoplifting and possession of stolen property related charge. She is to appear in bail court.

Domestic Related Arrest

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested an 18 year-old male on the 18th of October at 12:30 pm and charged him with one count of assault. It is alleged that on the 18th of October the accused assaulted his common law girlfriend at their residence. The accused is to appear in bail court this morning.

Impaired Driving Arrest

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 37 year-old James Cameron of 250 East Balfour Street at 3:40 am this morning on Second Line West and charged him with one count of impaired driving and one count of consume over the legal limit.

It is alleged that on the 19th of October at 3:30 am officers observed a vehicle being operated erratically on Peoples Road and failingto stop for the red light at the Second Line intersection. Officers stopped the vehicle and found the driver, the accused, under the influence of alcohol.

The accused was subsequently arrested for impaired driving and consuming over the legal limit. He is to appear in court on the 21st of November.

Male Arrested in Relation to Stolen Property

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 20 year-old Jason Boutilier of 151 Second Line West (basement apt.) on the 18th of October at 2 pm at his residence and charged him with one count of possession of property obtained by crime.

It is alleged that on the 17th of October the accused attended at a local scrap salvage business and traded a large piston assembly (dump truck hoist), 4 batteries and a radiator in exchange for $118.75.

The items were reported stolen form a local construction yard during the early morning hours of the 17th of October. The accused is to appear in court ton the 28th of November.

Female Arrested in Relation to Stolen Licence Plates

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 19 year-old Larissa McCoy-Crawford of #5-710 Second Line West on the 18th of October at 9:55 pm at her residence and charged her with one count of possession of property obtained by crime. It is alleged that on the 18th October at 9:50 pm officers found the accused in possession of stolen plates on her Grand Am at her residence. The plates were reported stolen on the 16th of October. She is to appear in court on the 21st of November.

Three Persons Arrested During Vehicle Stop Charged with Numerous Weapon Related Offences

On the 19th of October at approximately 3:00 am officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service conducted a vehicle stop on Sackville Road. There were three persons inside the 1998 GMC Sierra extended-cab truck at the time, the male driver and two passengers, a male adult and one female youth. The driver of the vehicle was identified as 20 year-old Derrick Derasp.

A CPIC check of Derasp revealed him to be an unlicenced driver, to be prohibited by a court order from possessing weapons and ammunition and to be on a valid probation order with the condition to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. While speaking with Derasp, officers observed a shotgun shell lying on the floor of the passenger side of the vehicle. As a result, Derasp was arrested.

The accused was searched and officers located on his person, a knife capable of being opened by centrifugal force (prohibited weapon), $4940.00 in Canadian currency, a drug debt list and two cell phones. Officers searched the vehicle and located a loaded, double-barrelled sawed-off .410 shotgun, ten .410 shotgun shells and two containers of bear mace. A check of the firearm revealed that it was reported stolen from a residence during a break and enter that occurred earlier this year.

Also located were two sets of digital scales, both with a trace amount of cocaine on them and other drug paraphernalia, including two grenade replica marijuana grinders.

As a result, all three persons were arrested and remanded into custody for a bail hearing tomorrow morning.

Two Male Youths Arrested for Assault at Local Youth Detention Centre

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested two youths, ages 16 and 17 years, on the 18th of October at a local youth detention centre and charged them both with one count of assault. It is alleged that officers received information that the two accused males had assaulted fellow inmates on the evening of the 17th of October while in custody at the Centre. Both accused are to appear in court on the 22nd of November.
