One person faces multiple charges after it is alleged that they threatened security personnel with a knife and assaulted police officers late Tuesday afternoon.
At approximately 5 p.m., officers responded to the 200 block of Bay Street to investigate a report of a person threatening security officers with a knife after being asked to leave an area business.
The accused was located by police at the intersection of Bay Street and Gore Street a short time later.
"While they were being arrested, the accused physically resisted officers, and kicked and scratched them multiple times," says a news release issued by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.
As a result of this incident, 31-year-old Tanya Chakasim faces charges of:
• Assault with weapon
• Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
• Assault peace officer x2
• Resist peace officer
