A 30-year-old woman is facing impaired driving charges after police received a report of potential drug use in a vehicle in the 300 block of John Street on Wednesday night.

After receiving a call around 9:30 p.m., officers arrived on the scene and spotted the vehicle, which was running but parked at a business in the area.

Officers observed the accused in the driver's seat, along with suspected narcotics and paraphernalia.

Following a conversation, officers believed that the accused's ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by drugs.

Mikaila Straatsma was arrested and charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and/or drug.

She was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on June 30.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent until proven guilty.
