The Algoma District School Board is seeking applications from qualified applicants for the following position: Re-Engagement and Attendance Coach
Permanent Full-time
Location: Sault Ste. Marie w/Board-wide responsibilities

Reporting to the Superintendent of Education, and with direction from the Mental Health Lead and System Attendance Lead, the Re-Engagement and Attendance Coach (REAC) will be responsible for providing supports to students and their families, as well as school- and system-based staff in addressing and overcoming barriers to regular school attendance. The REAC will work in collaboration with other department staff to develop and implement strategies that promote student engagement and success. This position involves working closely with students, families, teachers, and community partners to develop and implement individualized re-engagement plans.

Qualifications:
• Post-secondary education in social sciences, CYW or related field
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in outreach, counselling and or youth services.
• Experience working with students and families in an educational or social service setting.
• Knowledge of issues related to absenteeism and student engagement.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Familiarity with community resources and support services.
• Organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Commitment to promoting equity and inclusion in education.
• Valid G-Class Driver’s License, access to a vehicle in good working condition, and the ability to travel to different communities to provide services
Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate the ability to:
• Develop familiarity with the Education Act and regulations pertaining to school attendance.
• Work closely with System Attendance Lead, school staff, community organizations and social services to provide support to students.
• Maintain accurate records of student attendance and intervention plans.
• Make use of data analysis and referrals to identify students at risk of disengagement or those who have already disengaged from school.
• Analyze data to identify trends and measure the effectiveness of interventions.
• Conduct outreach efforts to students and families to understand the reasons for disengagement and to initiate re-engagement processes.
• Assess student’s academic, social, and emotional needs to develop personalized re-engagement plans.
• Collaborate with teachers, counsellors, and others to support the implementation of these plans.
• Provide ongoing support and mentorship to the students to ensure they continue to progress.
• Monitor and document students’ attendance, academic performance and over all well-being.
• Assist in delivering professional development sessions related to improving school attendance.
• Prepare regular reports on student progress and program outcomes.
• Perform other duties as may be assigned.
