Purpose:
In partnership with Sault Area Hospital (SAH), the Sault Ste. Marie Academic Medical Association (SSM AMA) Research Co-ordinator will support and administer the local research program and assist SSM AMA physician membership in developing and completing local clinical research and scholarly activity projects. Reporting directly to the Sault Ste. Marie Academic Medical Association Manager, the Research Coordinator is directly accountable for developing and supporting local research programs, policies, collaboration as well as coordination of SSM AMA members’ research proposal development and project coordination.
Job Duties:
• Plans and coordinates the initiation of established research study protocol, and the execution of operating policies and procedures.
• Ensures the smooth and efficient day-to-day operation of research and data collection activities.
• Acts as the primary administrative point of contact for internal research staff and as the principle operational liaison for other research organizations, funding agencies and regulating bodies.
• Coordinates the day-to-day activities of any technical support staff specifically engaged in the carrying out of research/clinical protocol, as appropriate to the position; may perform aspects of research protocol, as required, in accordance with specified program objectives.
• Monitors financial capacity for research study staffing and is involved in the recruitment and departmental orientation as appropriate to the activity.
• Coordinates external funding support for the overall SSM AMA office in partnership with the Board of Directors, Manager, and other team members.
• Participates in the development and review of institutional research policy and procedures
• Provides pre-award proposal advisory and support including clarification of submission guidelines, proposal development, and budget review.
• Provides clear reporting and updates to the SSM AMA Manager and Board of Directors.
• Prepares research ethics board (REB) applications.
• Provides external project submission support.
• Promotes research capacity building among community-based organizations and student groups.
• Creates and communicates research process documentation.
• Creates and delivers research procedure education tools for membership.
• Plans, implements, and maintains data collection and analysis systems in support of research protocol; may coordinate the collection and analysis of research data.
• Ensures research projects are in compliance with security and privacy policies by establishing data share agreements and providing the necessary tools
• Coordinates research subjects and/or volunteers, as appropriate to specific study objectives and work scope.
• Monitors the progress of research activities; develops and maintains records of research activities, and prepares periodic and ad hoc reports, as required by investigators, administrators, funding agencies, and/or regulatory bodies.
• Tracks and submits research project spending monitoring adherence to project and invoice spending policies.
• Communicates and seeks approval from PI on project expenses including budget allowances and payment approvals.
• Identifies expenses outside of budget allowance and process according to policy
• Supports research project proposal and budget development.
Qualifications:
• Completion of an undergraduate degree or equivalent related education and experience with provides strong knowledge of an academic research environment.
• Minimum one year of research administration/coordination experience
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Strong knowledge in community research-based principles
• Demonstrated ability to evaluate and edit grant proposals and budgets and experience with research agreements and contracts
• Highly motivated with exceptional program coordination and personnel management skills
• Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with researchers, physicians, partner institutions, and other stakeholders
• Must have demonstrated attention-to-detail and problem solving and ability to work with confidential information
• Familiarity with data storage and analysis systems and strong proficiency with a variety of computer software applications
• Knowledge of and adherence to Hospital Standards of performance, and organizational policies and procedures.
