Canadian Tapestry Centre NOW at Laureate College

So excited to announce the new location for the Canadian Tapestry Centre, now at Laureat College.
As part of the Nov 16 Open House and Masterclass presented by Dr. Lina Li, " The fascinating Story behind Handel's Messiah 10:30 - 11:30 am (** 15.00 Admission), we are now presenting at our Front Gallery Celebrating the Art of Tapestry, and its STEAM Program Connection at Laureate College

We are thrilled to present an inspiring display at the Front Gallery of Laureate College, where the STEAM program intertwines with the Arts to highlight the timeless relevance of tapestry as both an art form and a historical medium.
Tapestry, rooted in ancestral techniques, where the process of making the yarns, dying colors, weaving tools, designers, etc., has been a powerful tool of expression and utility for centuries. From symbolizing “status” and depicting religious imagery to serving as insulation for castles, its versatility and artistry are unparalleled. However, the Industrial Revolution brought significant change, with power looms overshadowing traditional methods. Among these innovations, the Jacquard loom emerged—a revolutionary device that utilized a binary system of perforated cards. This groundbreaking technology not only transformed the textile industry but also became the precursor for the first computers, establishing an extraordinary link between traditional craftsmanship and the digital age.
Today, in our Contemporary Arts movement, tapestry and fibre arts have gained a new dimension, celebrating the resilience and creativity of handmade production. They play a vital role in reevaluating the contributions of women in art and the enduring beauty of slow, intentional craftsmanship.

Come and explore how this ancient medium continues to inspire, innovate, and connect across time and disciplines—honoring the past, embracing the present, and envisioning the future.
We invite you to immerse yourself in this celebration of heritage, technology, and creativity. The Canadian Tapestry and Texture Centre will soon open its doors -and looms - to all the Community for classes andinitiatives that will involve everyone!

Come join us this Saturday from 10 - 2 pm, see our wonderful display of Tapestries, enjoy wonderful music and learn more about our programs.
