Scenario 1: You’re already familiar with the e-bike you want.

Maybe you—or someone you trust—already owns one and loves it. Or perhaps you tried one on your last vacation and fell in love with it.

Should you go ahead and purchase it online? The answer is: Not yet...

Scenario 2: You’ve never ridden an e-bike, but you’re sold on the idea.

You’ve done your research, picked out a few brands, and your finger is hovering over the "Buy" button.
Our advice? Hold on—at least until you read this.

There are a few important things to consider before buying an e-bike. Here are the big ones:

1. Service and Spare Parts
Can you get parts and services locally? Many shops won’t work on e-bikes they didn’t sell—especially if they use off-brand or unfamiliar batteries and parts.

If you're buying and e-bike from an online marketplace or a company you saw on social media, you might have trouble finding local support and parts. Even basic parts, like a wheel or a charger, could take weeks to arrive—especially if they’re being shipped from overseas, and that's if you're lucky to find them.

2. Try Before You Buy
When making an investment of $2,000 to $6,000+ on an e-bike, it will be crucial to test ride before you buy. No website or YouTube video can match the feel of an actual ride.

Feeling the difference between a torque and cadence sensor, or a 350 Watts vs. a 500 Watts motor, is hard without riding them. A local shop lets you experience it firsthand.

3. Build a Long-Term Relationship
Your local shop doesn’t just sell e-bikes—they become your go-to support system. Building that relationship early means easier and faster repairs, better advice, and long-term support.

4. Got Questions? We’ve Got Answers.
After you purchase your e-bike, you’ll have questions. Your local experts are just a visit or phone call away. Online sellers? If you actually get someone on the phone, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a service advisor who knows the intricacies of your e-bike as well as your local service e-bike shop experts.

Before you buy online, stop by your local shop.

Whether you’ve already chosen your perfect e-bike (down to the colour and accessories) or you’re still exploring your options, your local shop is the best place to learn about models, features, accessories, and maintenance.
