WATCH: ‘It would be foolish to assume Trump is going to go away in four years’

Global stock markets plunged for a second straight day as Donald Trump's sweeping tariffs stoke fears of a recession.

Friday's losses were even sharper than Thursday's, with the S&P/TSX composite index down 1,142 points heading into the weekend.

On tonight's episode of 'Closer Look,' we revisit our podcast interview with McMaster University business professor François Neville, who spoke about just how bad things might get for Canada's teetering economy as our neighbours embrace protectionism.

“Regardless of who is the Canadian Prime Minister, it would be foolish to assume that Trump is going to go away in four years, and that this new American posture towards the rest of the world is going to go away in four years," Neville said. “The worst-case scenario, I think, would be not having an honest look at where our economy is really heading if the North American integration completely breaks down."
