James Hopkin/SooToday

SooToday's meteorologist Jerry Shields says today starts out with rain then scattered weak thunderstorms this morning. The evening will see stronger storms redevelop that will bring damaging winds and heavy rain.

Significant rain is likely, with 40-70mm possible by the time it ends after midnight. Damaging winds are likely overnight with gusts near 100km/h.

Temperatures climb through the day and reach 19°C by midnight on gusty south winds reaching 30km/h. The winds become northwest in the evening as the second round of storms arrive.
