An Inconvenient Truth earned him the best documentary Oscar earlier this year, and last night the audience rose to its feet as Al Gore took the stage to accept the Emmy award for creative achievement in interactive television for Current TV.

While he may not have been elected to the Oval Office, with this award, the former US presidential candidate has secured his position as an innovator of the television entertainment industry.

Current TV is a cable and satellite network that allows viewers to decide the programming by creating, submitting and voting on content.

About one third of Current TV's programming is created by viewers.
