NEWS RELEASE

SAULT AREA ARTS COUNCIL

*************************
Everyone is invited to an informal dinner in the LSSU Cisler Center Ballroom, followed by the Annual Art Auction of the Sault Area Arts Council.

Dinner tickets are $25 and include a wine and cheese social with beautiful acoustic music by February Sky, early access to the Buy-It-Now tables and table seating throughout the auction that follows.

The wine and cheese social is from 5 to 6 p.m. Dinner begins at six, with the auction following promptly at 7 p.m.

Deadline for dinner reservations is Wednesday, Oct. 18. To reserve, e-mail: saac@saultarts.org, or call Pat Claxton at 906-635-0424 or Jean Jones at 906-437-5463.

No reservations are necessary for the auction itself. Just show up by 7, pick up a bidder card, and take a seat.

The auctioneer is Frank Blisset. Area and festival artists have been generous and the Arts Council has an outstanding array of beautiful work.

Donations from Sault Summer Arts Festival Best of Show and Best of Crafts winners include Misshepezhieu, a 6 x 8” acrylic on canvas by Zoey Wood-Salomon; a pine needle basket centred by a large Brazilian agate by Janet Bonnell; Raven, a 12 x 12” acrylic on canvas by Jenny Leighton; two 6 x 6” oils on canvas, a wood duck and a mallard, by Jeanne Tubman; two beautiful leather purses by Jan Barnes; and a bright fantasy painting by Renee Hillock.

Also up for auction is a framed original by Pat Norton and two framed Pat Norton prints, all of freighters on the St. Marys. Other nautical work includes two Anthony Strublic graphite prints; a number of photographs of dredges, tugs and freighters and a Remy Champt print of the historic 1892 S.S. Curry.

There are two framed watercolours by Ken Hatfield, an etching by Lionel Barrymore; a pen and ink by Oliver Birge; two paintings by Lotte Steube; and from Boston rare book and print artist Laura Davidson, two rare prints—a drypoint print embellished with 22K gold leaf, and a letterpress print.

Other donations include blown, fused and stained glass; unique jewelry; fiber work; iron work; hand crafted wood items; scenic photographs; furniture, and, for your daily laugh, a couple of unique and imaginative creations made of found items.

There is much more, of course, and more coming in.

Come out for a good time and a great show.

It makes for a beautiful exhibit and when the evening is over, it will be gone so if you come just for the show, it will be worth the trip.

All proceeds go to the Sault Area Arts Council, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote the arts in the Sault Area. The money earned at the auction is used to keep Alberta House open and to keep Arts Council services—”Alberta House News”, Alberta House concerts and exhibits and the Annual Sault Summer Arts Festival open to all and free of charge.
