Interesting Fred facts

Fred bought his first guitar for $12.

He hopped a freight train and left his Southern Ontario home at the age of 16.

The Cowboy Junkies, Chris Knight and James King are just a few of the artists who have covered Fred's songs.

Two Fred Eaglesmith tribute albums have been recorded.

Martin Scorsese, James Caan and Toby Keith have all used Fred's songs in their movies.

Fred took home the Juno for Best Roots and Traditional Album - Solo in 1997 and was nominated for the same category in 2007.

He's been recording since 1980 and has a total of 16 albums.

Fred's latest release, Milly's Cafe reached the Americana top 10 in 2006.

Faithful "Fredheads" regularly travel thousands of miles to take in one of his festivals.

Not only is Fred a brilliant musician, songwriter and story teller, he is also quite an accomplished painter.

Still up for grabs is his 1977 International "George Jones Special" which comes complete with bath tub and optional wood stove.

Other interesting Fred merch includes earrings made from his guitar strings, tire gauges, train whistles, oil rags, guitar picks and license plate holders.

Fred owns the Hobo Store in Port Dover, Ontario which sells new and used music gear, offers lessons and repairs and houses the Fred Eaglesmith staff offices.
